Inauguration new Sammuzzo Cruise Terminal

The new Sammuzzo Cruise Terminal has been inaugurated in Palermo, the result of a joint venture between Costa Crociere and MSC Cruises. The two cruise companies established West Sicily Gate, the company that promoted and financed the project aimed at strengthening the Sicilian capital’s role as a strategic hub in the Mediterranean.

The new infrastructure, developed in collaboration with the Port System Authority of the Western Sicilian Sea, is designed to enhance hospitality, operational efficiency, and the sustainability of port services.

Covering an area of 1,300 square meters and built with an investment of approximately €1.4 million, the terminal is expected to handle around 160,000 passengers annually starting from 2026, with significant growth prospects in the years ahead. Additional infrastructure upgrades and innovative technologies for port security and management are also planned.

During the inauguration ceremony, institutional representatives highlighted the strategic importance of the project for both Palermo and Sicily, emphasizing the value of cooperation between the public and private sectors. A central role was played by Costa Crociere and MSC Cruises, the driving forces behind the initiative that further strengthens the Port of Palermo as one of the Mediterranean’s leading cruise hubs, generating positive impacts on tourism, the economy, and employment.
